Joey Gallagher is the Executive Director of Psychedelic Club and was an integral part of decriminalizing psilocybin mushrooms in Denver.

Founded at the University of Colorado Boulder in 2014, this Psychedelic Club focuses NOT on the consumption of psychedelics BUT on the redefinition of our cultural relationship to psychedelic substances. A failed War on Drugs has littered the narrative field with propaganda, stigma, and bad policy. The club seeks to clear the air of these informational pollutants by facilitating an open and intellectually honest examination of the role of psychedelics within our personal, collective, and historical lives.

In this episode we discuss with Joey what is the Psychedelic Club, there mission and what goes down at there weekly meetings here in Denver and the diversity of the clubs membership.

Episode 35 Thomas Kingsley Brown

Episode 35 Thomas Kingsley Brown

Thomas Kingsley Brown, Ph.D., started his research on ibogaine treatment in November of 2009 when he conducted interviews with patients at Pangea Biomedics (then in Playas de Tijuana, Mexico) and collected data to study changes in Quality of Life for those patients. Hearing about the transformative experiences of these people convinced him that ibogaine’s therapeutic value merited further study. Since 2010 he has been working with the Multidisciplinary Association of Psychedelic Studies (MAPS, based in Santa Cruz, California, USA) on a Mexico-based observational study of the long-term outcomes for people receiving ibogaine-assisted treatment for substance dependence. Of the 30 participants enrolled in that study, 25 were treated by Jeffrey Israel at his clinic near Rosarito, Baja California, Clare Wilkins treated Mexico, and five at Pangea Biomedics. That study is complete, and the first research article on the study has been submitted for publication. In 2013, Dr. Brown published a review article on ibogaine treatment in Current Drug Abuse Reviews. His academic background is primarily in chemistry (B.S., University of Pittsburgh and M.S., California Institute of Technology) and anthropology (Ph.D., UCSD). He has long had an interest in altered states of consciousness and life-changing experiences, such as religious conversion. He currently runs an undergraduate research program at the University of California, San Diego.

Matt Sydal is an American professional wrestler who currently wrestles for Evolve under the ring name Evan Bourne and on the independent circuit as Matt Sydal. He is most recently known for his time in Impact Wrestling where he is a former Impact Grand Champion and Impact X Division Champion. Sydal is also known from his time in WWE, where he performed as Evan Bourne, and was a one-time WWE Tag Team Champion, with Kofi Kingston. Between 2000 and 2007, Sydal wrestled on the independent circuit, for promotions including NWA Midwest, IWA-Mid South, and Ring of Honor, winning both singles and tag team championships. He also wrestled for the short-lived Wrestling Society X and was featured on Total Nonstop Action Wrestling's early pay-per-view events. He has also wrestled for New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), where he is a former two-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion and a one-time NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Champion. Sydal is known for his high flying but hybrid lucha libre and puroresu styles of wrestling and was named the Wrestling Observer Newsletter's Best Flying Wrestler in 2008.
